  The Confluence

  The confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers at the site of Fort Calgary is the birthplace of the city. Just across from Fort Calgary and right at the confluence is St. Patrick’s island.   The confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers at the site of Fort Calgary is the birthplace of the city. Just across from Fort Calgary and right at the confluence is St. Patrick’s island. This could be an ideal location to host a major work of art that celebrates the rich history of this place, not only as the birthplace of Calgary, but its importance to those who came before and those who continue to come here today. The Confluence could become a major feature of the rivers district, a place where public art would inspire reflection and exploration, tranquility and vitality; creating a significant civic landmark, a sense of identity for the city, a source of pride for its citizens, and a legacy that will inspire future generations. The Confluence will celebrate a truly special place in Calgary.

  Solicit ideas for public art from Calgarians, creating an opportunity for on-going idea generation and citizen participation in the vision for our city developed and presented in imagineCALGARY. Anyone can submit their ideas: individuals, community groups, schools, nonprofits, artists, and others.   Solicit ideas for public art from Calgarians, creating an opportunity for on-going idea generation and citizen participation in the vision for our city developed and presented in imagineCALGARY.

  Anyone can submit their ideas: individuals, community groups, schools, nonprofits, artists, and others. A selection committee would select one project proposal to fund as well as the artist to complete the project. Submissions could be for temporary or permanent public art and might address a community need or reveal something significant about a specific group, individual, or place; it is completely open to the IMAGINATION.

  GIANT WHITE CHROME COWBOY HAT PUBLIC ART SCULPTURE

  Consider how well received Anish Kapoor's 'Cloud Gate' in Chicago has been. We could build a giant white chrome cowboy hat in Olympic Plaza or elsewhere that people would love to have their photos take in front of or even on top off! The hat could be laying upside down, to symbolize openness, allowing anyone to climb in, or it could be raised off the ground so people could huddle under it if it rained, suggesting that ...more »
