I would like to see our green spaces used more for temporary art installations. Our current green spaces are seriously underutilized. This would provide more venues for exhibitions, and more art encounters for people using or passing by those spaces.

Proposed over the years in City Council was the idea of having a "bridge" between the core and the Beltline. If I were to think in terms of building a civic legacy and had dollars at my disposal, I'd create a terraced park space over a block of the CP rail lines. If I were to think in terms of building a civic legacy and had dollars at my disposal, I'd create a terraced park space over a block of the CP rail lines. For discussion sake, let's say between 4th and 5th Street, tying downtown culture with the walkable 11th Ave design district, 17th Ave nightlife, and 4th Street restaurants and boutiques. A midtown destination site would cut the psychological barrier between the two sections of the core and create a central meeting place between the two culturally thriving sections of the city.
Summer on the greened park podium could be home to outdoor festivals, buskers, performers, musicians, or an open air market.
To create winter interest, a mix of permanent, spectacular, contemporary sculpture and temporary participatory installations exploring the winterized urban environment.

More funding for the arts to strengthen existing organizations. Calgary has a strong arts sector. However, the sector is faced with unprecedented challenges in the areas of paid staff turnover, declining volunteer hours, increased demand for services, escalating operational costs, and anticipated lower public and private funding.
