Showcase work created by Calgary artists

Artist Residencies can Inspire Us

We just visited Artist Ranch Project at the Western Oasis (complete with a wine bar!) at the Stampede. This project provides artist residencies at a ranch in Southern Alberta. The artists create work inspired by the residency, and this work is displayed during the Stampede. Agriculture/ranching is an important part of Calgary's heritage and culture, and it was inspiring to see the fresh perspectives provided by the artists participating in the project.

What if we had more residencies like this during 2012? And we could expand it to other aspects of Calgary's culture: oil & gas, sports, urban growth, ethnic diversity, etc. And we could expand it beyond visual arts...
